What era are we in? That is a question I asked today. You may have seen people using C.E. for common era, which is a clear secular, anti-Christian sentiment. Even if this C.E. and B.C.E. (before common era) is used by “Christians” it is historically wrong. The liberal Wikipedia states:
“Since the late 20th century, BCE and CE have become popular in academic and scientific publications on the grounds that BCE and CE are religiously neutral terms. They have been promoted as more sensitive to non-Christians by not referring to Jesus, the central figure of Christianity, especially via the religious terms "Christ" and Dominus ("Lord") used by the other abbreviations.”
They readily admit one cannot change the era essentially, it is still A.D. Anno Domini meaning the year of our Lord [Jesus Christ]. In their own words, “Nevertheless, its epoch remains the same as that used for the Anno Domini era.”
Anno Domini is of course a latin phrase, and in speaking of “the year of our Lord” indicates that in the year 2025, it is 2,025 years after the year of Christ’s birth. Thus, it is Christ’s birth that sets the mark of eras and calendar. It is a Happy New Year so long as he is remembered throughout. There is no happiness in the year apart from it being the Lord’s year, every year.
